Single Room, Earth View is about America's first woman in space describes the beauty of Earth from orbit. The author easily lost track of Sally Ride's trips around the world and very high speeds (it's very hard to keep track of where you are when everything is constantly shifting). The main idea of the story was to describe Sally's trips around the world in a space ship, specifically from her perspective of Earth from space. The story emphasizes how you can't really describe space travel to someone who has never done it. It continually talks about how it's impossible to describe, and she goes into to vivid detail about how amazing everything looks from a space shuttle. Sally continually says that it's hard to describe. The tone of this story is descriptive.
From reading this story, I learned that trying to describe an airplane ride to someone who has never flown is very hard. You can't really describe space travel to someone who has never done it. It's impossible to describe, and she goes into to vivid detail about how amazing everything looks from a space shuttle. That's one thing Sally really emphasizes. That also shows she was full with awe. I also learned that "civilization's more unfortunate effects on the environment" are the negative aspects of human impact on the world, like pollution and oil spills.
